Brunswick County Commissioner Pat Sykes has been appointed to serve as the Homeland Security Subcommittee vice chair for the National Association of Counties' Justice and Public Safety Steering Committee, according to a news release.

Sykes was also appointed a member of NACo's Immigration Reform Task Force and Military Services Committee, officials said. She was previously named a member of the NACo Justice and Public Safety Steering Committee, the Veterans Military Services Committee and the Immigration Reform Task Force in 2016.

“Committee participation at the national level is a serious commitment and responsibility,” Roy Charles Brooks, NACo president, said in the release. “We must continue working with governmental, nonprofit and industry partners to highlight the importance of local government. My goal is to build a committed leadership team for NACo, as NACo’s strength is in its members and their involvement in NACo’s committees.”

NACo's Justice and Public Safety Steering Committee covers matters pertaining to criminal justice and public safety systems. The NACo Immigration Reform Task Force provides a forum for county officials from across the nation to discuss immigration and its impact on local governments.

The Veterans and Military Services Committee engages NACo and its members to develop and highlight county best practices and policies to promote innovative programs, services and benefits for the nation’s military, veterans and their families, officials said.
