GLOW Academy Brings College Bound Counselor

By Staff Reports, posted Dec 6, 2016
The Girls Leadership Academy of Wilmington, North Carolina’s first single-gender public charter school, has brought on Jahleese Ladson as the school’s first college bound counselor.

Ladson is the former program manager for girls’ education with the Young Women’s Leadership Network, of which GLOW Academy is an affiliate.

At GLOW Academy, Ladson is working with students, families and college admissions counselors to optimize college placement and maximize financial aid resources, according to a news release.

“Organization, conflict management, and a self-understanding of skills, talents and interests are important to student success,” she said in the release. “First we’ll work on becoming awesome middle schoolers, so we can be awesome high schoolers and graduate with real options.”

The Girls Leadership Academy of Wilmington opened in August, with an inaugural class of 100 sixth-graders.
