Two medical professionals from New Hanover Regional Medical Center have moved to Pender Memorial Hospital in Burgaw, which is affiliated with NHRMC.

Registered nurse Lisa Mantooth has been named manager of Pender Memorial’s 25-bed Acute Care Services and Swing Bed Unit, according to a news release from the hospital. The Acute Care Services cares for medical, surgical and telemetry patients, while the Swing Bed Unit is designed for short-term rehabilitation patients, the release stated.

Mantooth has more than 20 years’ nursing experience. Most recently she was a nurse manager on the 10th floor of NHRMC. Before that, Mantooth served as an administrative coordinator and a clinical coordinator and spent 16 years as a staff nurse in the hospital’s Oncology Department, according to the release.

Amy Hewett (at left) is Pender Memorial’s new coordinator of infection control and employee health, the release stated. The majority of her 16 years at NHRMC was spent in nephrology. She began as a nephrology RN, became the coordinator of nephrology, and then specialized as a dialysis nurse. After 12 years, she moved to the hospital’s Employee Health and Clinic area.

Hewett’s duties in her new position at Pender Memorial Hospital will include collection and analysis of infection data, exercise of prevention and control strategies and implementation of changes required by regulatory and licensing agencies, according to the release. She will also regulate employee immunizations and health records in compliance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention standards.
