ILM Work Garners Recognition

By Joe Lowe, posted Mar 3, 2015
Wilmington International Airport received the ANTN Digicast Excellence in Airport Training award for training completed in 2014. In addition, the National Asphalt Pavement Association awarded S.T. Wooten Corp. the 2014 Ray Brown Airport Pavement Award for work at Wilmington’s International Airport runway 17-35, according to press releases.

An ANTN Digicast Excellence in Airport Training award requires airport employees to complete an exact amount of federally mandated airport-specific education training using ANTN Digicast’s Web-based training system, officials said.

Award levels are based on the numbers of training programs watched and employees trained at each airport. Levels vary based on the airport's size, operations, security and customer service. ILM is one of 92 airports recognized for the honor, according to a news release.

“As a third-consecutive-year recipient of this award, we are proud to be recognized for our commitment to safety and customer service. ANTN’s Digicast training has allowed our employees access to topnotch training programs developed by industry leaders,” ILM airport director Julie Wilsey said in the release.

The Ray Brown Airport Pavement Award recognizes excellence in asphalt airport pavement construction and is presented to the highest-rated airport project submitted for a NAPA Quality in Construction Award. S.T. Wooten Corp. covered tracks on an ILM runway with a fabric interlayer and fresh asphalt.

“We had our first-ever ‘5k on the Runway Run’ as a sort of ribbon-cutting ceremony,” Wilsey said. “We are very pleased with the brand-new asphalt, groovings, markings, and especially the beads at night on the pavement. It’s beautiful.”
