The Wilmington Chamber of Commerce has announced its annual Leadership Wilmington award recipients.

The seventh annual Karl Davis Leadership Wilmington Alumnus of the Year Award was presented to 2007 Leadership Wilmington graduate Wilma Daniels during the recent Leadership Wilmington Alumni Association reception, according to a news release from the chamber.

The award was named in memory of LW graduate and WECT general manager Karl Davis, who died in 2008, the release stated.

Daniels, who is president of Daniels Management, was honored for her extensive volunteer work and for giving back to the community, according to the release, which added that she is a trustee of the University of North Carolina Wilmington and is the founder of the Katherine S. She serves on the executive committee for the American Heart Association and is a mentor for UNCW students and for young women at the YWCA.

Daniels has also worked to enhance opportunities for diversity throughout the community, the release stated. She serves on the chamber of commerce board and the chamber’s diversity committee.

For the first time, Most Outstanding Leadership Wilmington Class Member Awards were presented to two members of the same class, the result of a tie in the voting by Class of 2013 members.
