A favorite foodie stop at The Forum will close its doors January 22.
Jean Martin, the owner of NOFO Market & Café for the past 10 years, has announced that she will retire from her business in Wilmington to focus on her two Raleigh restaurants and her family.
James Bain, NOFO’s chef since the summer, plans to reopen the eatery this spring with a different concept: a quick-serve restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and prepared foods. The new eatery will have a retail component, just as NOFO has. Bain anticipates being open seven days a week.
“Jean Martin created an excellent concept with NOFO and we intend to honor her legacy by creating another unique café,” said Bain. “We’re fortunate to have many great chefs and restaurants in Wilmington, but there is still a great need for a café that is inexpensive, fresh, healthy and quick. Our new restaurant is going to fulfill that need.”
Bain is no stranger to the Wilmington food scene. A 1994 graduate of Johnson & Wales University in Charleston, S.C., he owned and operated Harvest Moon Food & Spirits in Wilmington from 1995 to 2004. From 2006 to 2010, he was general manager and executive chef at Dockside Restaurant. In 2010, he created Surf Salt, an all-purpose seasoning marketed nationally in specialty stores and online at surf-salt.com
NOFO, at 1125 Military Cutoff Road, will host a “Buy Bye” sale January 19-22 and serve its final brunch on the 22nd. For information, call 679-4674 or visit http://www.nofo.com/tour_forum.php
