ATMC To Change Name To Reflect Shift To Broadband

By Johanna Cano, posted Dec 6, 2021
ATMC is changing its name to FOCUS Broadband starting next year, a rebranding that will reflect the company’s evolution since it was founded in 1955, according to a press release.

The communication company’s new name will align with the business’s change from a traditional telephone and cable TV provider to one that specializes in delivering fiber optic, high-speed internet.

“We believe FOCUS Broadband is a more accurate reflection of what our company is becoming as we expand our reach using fiber optic broadband as our core service offering,” CEO Keith Holden said in the release.

Over the years, the cooperative has been expanding internet service to communities in Brunswick and Columbus counties. In October, it announced a multi-year, $100 million project to bring faster internet by replacing its old network with a 100% fiber optic network.

“The rebranding also coincides with the launch of a multi-year project that will connect all members to fiber optic broadband along with further expansion into new markets in southeastern North Carolina,” the release stated.

In addition to updating its network, the company has also received state and federal grants to bring high-speed internet to underserved rural areas in Duplin, Pender and Robeson counties. This includes a $21.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to deliver high-speed internet to more than 7,000 addresses in Pender County.

With the rebranding, the company will have a new logo and a new website address FOCUSbroadband.com.
