Brandon M. Noel, founder and CEO
Grunt Tough is a software and traditional manufacturing company; products are made and distributed out of its Wilmington facility. It is service-disabled veteran-owned and currently has an all service-disabled veteran staff.
Products made locally: The company has two primary products, with varying models: ID scanning iPad holders (kiosks) and 5G equipment mounting systems.
Why does the company make its goods locally?
Noel: “I can produce our products locally in the quantities that make sense for us, support other local businesses and employ some great veterans all at the same time. To me, that’s worth keeping local.”
What’s your target market?
Noel: “Grunt Tough services two very niche markets – supporting ID scanning tablet apps and designing/manufacturing mounting systems to support the growth and expansion of 5G.”
What’s planned next?
Noel: “Earlier this year, Grunt Tough won a contract to manage the site selection and installation of 5G small cell sites in New Hanover County. That grew into managing locations from North Carolina down to Florida, Southern Texas and parts of the Midwest. Our particular focus was to place 5G technologies at veteran service organizations and other organizations that have a component of veteran support. We have recently become approved as a government contractor and are getting our official VA verification as a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business. “Our newest product [which was designed, engineered and manufactured in-house] is a 5G non-penetrating roof mount, which is a single universal mount … it is one mount that can be used on just about any roof type. We are also designing systems for mounting to light poles, vehicles and open field deployment … We want to hire more veterans, especially those with disabilities/ mobility issues.”
