Area Uniform Company Acquired

By Jenny Callison, posted Sep 16, 2014
Wilmington-based Best Uniforms has been purchased by Galls LLC, a uniform and equipment distributor in Lexington, Kentucky, Galls announced recently.

Galls officials declined to disclose the terms of transaction, according to the company’s news release.

Best Uniforms, which has been owned and operated by John and Jan Best since 1991, is a regional distributor of uniforms and equipment for public safety, transit, hospitality and industrial employees, according to its website. Gall has a similar product portfolio but distributes nationally.

“We are pleased to announce the acquisition of Best Uniforms,” Michael Wessner, CEO of Galls, said in the release. “Best Uniforms is a leader in the North Carolina and Virginia markets and has distinguished itself through excellent service in its stores. We are excited to build on Best Uniforms’ success by pairing it with Galls’ breadth of product assortment, national distribution capabilities, catalog and web presence, as well as our premier information technology infrastructure.”

Earlier this year, Best Uniforms acquired Goldsboro-based Century Uniforms and continued to operate under both the Best and Century names, the release stated. Under the new ownership, that will not change, said a company official.

In addition to its Wilmington headquarters at 2716 Exchange Drive, Best Uniforms now has six other locations: one each in Raleigh and Goldsboro and two in Charlotte, as well as locations in Richmond and in Norfolk, Virginia. All the locations will remain open, the Best official said.

Galls LLC was acquired by New York-based private equity firm CI Capital Partners in September 2011, as a platform investment in the public safety products market, according to the news release. The purchase of Best Uniforms is the third add-on acquisition for Galls under CI Capital’s ownership.
