Like many businesses these days, Salty Sistas food truck and eatery has had to shift its business model to adapt to the regulations in place as a result of the novel coronavirus pandemic. 
 
The Sneads Ferry-based operation began with the launch of the food truck just over a year ago, followed by a brick and mortar location on N.C. 172 just eight months ago.

Owner Jeanette Georgitis works alongside her son and daughter, chef Anthony Lopez and Jacey Davis, serving a variety of items that they refer to as “salty fare with a Southern flair.”
 
Their regular menu consists of items such as fresh Maine lobster rolls, burgers, cheesesteaks and tacos of all kinds. These days they have shifted their model to focus mainly on a rotating selection of family-style meals for takeout. Some days they also serve lunch from the truck.
 
“We’ve had a lot of community support from the start,” Anthony Lopez said. “This is a challenging time for sure, but we’re grateful that we’ve been able to adapt.”
 
The team showed up to thank the community for its support and give back by participating int the Meals for Heroes and NHRMC Gratitude Lane last week. They served carnitas tacos with a chili lime slaw and avocado salsa, along with chips and homemade chocolate chip cookies to the emergency medicine department from New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
 
“We were asked to be a part of this and everyone was immediately on board,” Lopez said. “We want to do our part.”
 
Lopez said that despite the current circumstances, plans are in the works for a second truck to hit the streets shortly, allowing them to work in multiple locations.
 
“Lots of neighborhoods right now are interested in having trucks come so that they can gather with friends and neighbors at a distance and enjoy a meal,” Lopez said. “It’s a great way to keep the local trucks in business and still practice social distancing.”
 
The Salty Sistas team said they have implemented safety precautions such as wearing masks and gloves to protect themselves and their customers.
