Shuckin’ Shack Debuts New Menu At Downtown Location

By Jessica Maurer, posted Feb 13, 2019
Shuckin’ Shack has launched a new menu at its downtown Wilmington location with the goal of boosting the restaurants’ lunchtime business and offering additional non-seafood items. This location is serving as a test market for system-wide changes according to co-founder, Matt Piccinin.

“We have listened to customer feedback, and feel confident our new menu truly has something for everyone,” Piccinin said.

Several sandwiches have been added to the menu including The Wilbur, a BLT with a half-pound of bacon served on Texas Toast, and The Tree Hugger, a vegan black bean burger. Two of the most popular items according to Piccinin are The Tuxedo T-Shirt, a decadent Lobster Grilled Cheese, and The Greggah, a traditional northeast lobster roll with southern flair. If he had to pick a favorite however, Piccinin said he’d have to go with the The Breakwater Burger, a juicy steak burger cooked to temperature.

In addition to the new sandwiches, Shuckin’ Shack has added scratch-made soups and new appetizers to the menu.

“We’re very proud of what we have added,” Piccinin said. “We brought the same passion to these new items that we’ve brought to the region for over a decade while staying true to what we believe, seafood doesn’t have to be fancy, but it should be fresh.”

And seafood lovers need not worry, while new items have been added, nothing has been taken away. The restaurant still specializes in oysters served three ways: on the half shell, steamed or chargrilled, as well as wild American shrimp, crab legs, clams and mussels and fried seafood baskets.

In addition to adding menu items, Shuckin’ Shack has updated the layout of the menu itself to include all of the beer, wine and signature cocktails, which were previously listed on a separate menu.

The company has also launched a “lunch bunch” punch card where customers who purchase seven lunches will get their eighth lunch for free.

Launched in 2007 by Piccinin and partner Sean Cook, Shuckin’ Shack operates two corporate stores in the Wilmington area, and there are fifteen franchise location now in operation, with five additional locations currently in development. A Jacksonville, NC location is set to open next month, followed by a Cummings, GA location in May. The company will open its first Florida location this year.
