Pembroke’s, a restaurant at 1125-A Military Cutoff Road in The Forum, is expected to close at the end of this month, according to a statement released last week by executive chef and owner James Doss.
The restaurant opened in 2013 as the sister restaurant to Rx, located at 421 Castle St., and since that time, Pembroke’s has shared the same commitment to locally and seasonally inspired, ingredient-driven Southern cuisine. According to Doss, the seasonal menus at both restaurants have highlighted the region’s organic farmers and fishermen, and strived to celebrate all things local.
“We’ve had a great run,” said Doss, “but I’m excited for the opportunity to be able to focus solely on my original restaurant, Rx Restaurant & Bar.”
Doss said that it has been a challenge from the very start to split his time between both restaurants. He believes, however, that Pembroke’s allowed him to expand his customer base, and rather than the two restaurants competing against one another, they created interest in one another. But with both competing for his time, he said he and his partners agreed that it would be best to return the focus solely to Rx.
Doss said the business has been sold to Bobby Zimmerman, a former executive chef at the Country Club of Landfall. Zimmerman has not yet released his plans for the new restaurant.
Pembroke’s invites customers to join them over the next two weeks as they bid farewell to the community. Farewell specials begin this week with $5 select appetizers, $3 draft beers and $10 off all bottles of wine. Additional specials can be found on Facebook and Instagram, and the final day of dinner service will be Nov. 29. After that time, all open gift cards for Pembroke’s will be redeemable at Rx.
“I want to thank our customers, farmers, and employees for making these past four years possible – it’s been a fun ride,” Doss said. “I’m so thankful for all of you who have supported us at Pembroke’s and we hope you’ll continue to come see us at Rx. I’d also like to welcome the new owners and wish them luck.”
