Bakery, tapas and jazz are the buzz words about a new restaurant coming to the former Crow Hill and longtime Caffe Phoenix site on downtown Wilmington’s Front Street, but the pending eatery’s owner is keeping plans hush-hush for now.
Matt Schuler is transforming 9 S. Front St., but Schuler said he would not release details about his vision or an opening date until later this month.
Friends who attended the University of North Carolina Wilmington attracted the Boston native, who has also lived in Charlottesville, Va., to Wilmington, Schuler said.
He started working in the restaurant industry in 1996 but also spent eight years working for an enzyme company, Schuler said.
“Just something about the city [Wilmington] just grabbed me like a bug,” Schuler said, equally enthusiastic about 9 S. Front St. “It’s the only spot I wanted in this town.”
Crow Hill vacated the address in July 2012 after about two years in business. Caffe Phoenix occupied the spot from 1989 to 2010.
