A marina in Carolina Beach has changed hands.

Shinnville Ridge Partners LLC, a real estate investment company based in Charlotte, has purchased Joyner Marina at 401 Marina St. in Carolina Beach for a little over $2 million, according to a deed recorded in New Hanover County.

The new name of the marina, which has 69 wet slips, will be Carolina Beach Yacht Club & Marina, according to Courtney Sloan, managing member of Shinnville Ridge Partners.

The new owners hope to increase the number of slips at the marina by about 18 slips, and also make other beneficial changes.

"We hope to expand to do a restaurant kind of concept," similar to Bluewater Waterfront Grill in Wrightsville Beach, offering live music on the weekends, Sloan said.

"We're excited and we're looking to bring it back to life," Sloan said.

According to Loopnet.com marketing materials on Joyner Marina, the marina is situated on nearly 6 acres with 1.5 acres of uplands and more than 4 acres of submerged area. In addition to the wet slips, the property was listed as having a wooden bulkhead, five metal gang planks, water and electric hookups and two gas pumps, one of which is diesel.

"In addition, there is a 1,506 SF tackle shop/office with two residential apartments on the 2nd floor," the listing says. "Most notably, Joyner Marina is the only privately-owned marina in Carolina Beach that has a fuel dock. The bulkhead was replaced in 2007-2008 and the marina is protected with rock jetty, which is very rare."

Sloan said the property's taxes have been paid and the new owners plan to continue to lease the slips out rather than sell them.
