A business owner whose boutique was previously located in Castle Hayne has opened her doors in new space in Leland.
Jill Miskelly last week opened The Duchess & The Prince, a store featuring handbags, jewelry and other accessories, in 925 square feet in a new Waterford Village retail building that also includes Panera Bread and Capelli Salon.
The Panera location and the salon also recently opened, and the 9,375-square-foot building is now fully leased, said Jimmy Conder, leasing executive with Weingarten Realty, the company that developed the building.
Conder is working on leasing space in another new outparcel building at Waterford Village.
Miskelly said the new location for her business is giving her more visibility and foot traffic. She had worked in retail in the past, as an assistant buyer for Nordstrom’s and for the luxury brands Donna Karan and Escada. Before starting The Duchess & The Prince in August, she held a position in for-profit higher education before deciding to move closer to her mother, Carol Miskelly, who lives in Brunswick Forest in Leland.
Miskelly, who has two teenage daughters, said she loved her previous job and wanted her next career to be just as enjoyable.
“I really wanted to love what I did because there's nothing like loving what you do and you can't wait to get to work Monday morning,” she said.
Commercial real estate broker Laurence Nadeau of Creative Commercial Properties represented Miskelly in the lease while Conder represented Weingarten Realty.
Miskelly said her store can also accommodate tea parties, book club meeting and girls’ night out events, where patrons can make their own bath and body products. The store also carries bath and body products that Miskelly makes.
With its new location next to The Duchess & The Prince at 2024 Olde Regent Way, Capelli Salon now has a bigger space than its previous location in the same area.
The Panera location is a first for Leland. The growing northern Brunswick County town continues to add new retail options.
“I do feel like the momentum will continue. The retailers follow the residential growth, and as long as the north Brunswick area continues to improve the residential density, the quality of the retailers and the number of retailers will continue to expand,” Conder said.
