Taco Bell Adds To Murrayville Activity

By J. Elias O'Neal, posted Jan 13, 2014
A 1-acre parcel that could be part of a future mixed-use development in the Murrayville area is currently under contract for a new Taco Bell, officials said Monday.

Jeremy Phillips, a broker and vice president of sales and marketing with Wilmington-based Environments Unlimited Inc., said the Taco Bell is pending proper permitting and approval from New Hanover County planning officials.

The parcel is in the 2500 block of N. College Road.

Phillips represents Fayetteville-based Family Foods that would construct the new fast-food eatery. Jack Kilbourne, a broker with Wilmington-based Maus Warwick Matthews & Company represents the landowner, Wilmington-based developer Adam Sosne.

Officials overseeing the franchise’s expansion hope to start construction on the Taco Bell by late spring or early summer, Phillips said.

It would become Family Foods’ fifth new eatery in the greater Wilmington market.

Recently, the firm opened new Taco Bell locations in Sneads Ferry, the Beau Rivage area in southern New Hanover County, in Hampstead at the Hampstead Town Center and in an outparcel fronting 17th Street in the Fulton Station Shopping Center in south Wilmington, Phillips said.

He added the firm currently has two other Taco Bell eateries under construction in Jacksonville and Elizabethtown.

Eventually, the parcel under contract could become part of a proposed 9-acre, $12 million mixed-use development near the Northchase entryway that would include ground level retail and apartments above.

The Taco Bell would add to the area’s growing commercial sector on North College Road.

A 4,300-square-foot McDonald’s recently opened along the corridor, which was followed by a Dollar General that also opened in the vicinity of the parcel under contract.
