A downtown Wilmington women's clothing store is moving to Mayfaire Town Center.

Tusc, which sells clothing and accessories that have a beachy-bohemian feel at 21 N. Front St., is moving to part of the former TrySports space on Town Center Drive, across from Fox & Hound. The store will be located next to Southern Tide, which is occupying the other half of the space.

"Most of my clientele live on that side of town and they have mentioned if you were closer it would be a lot easier for us to come down there," said Carissa Long, owner of Tusc.

The store's tagline is "where the desert meets the sea," so to Long, it made sense to be closer to the beach, in this case Wrightsville Beach.

Her store will expand from 300 square feet on North Front Street to 1,600 square feet at Mayfaire.

"It's very tiny in here. We have boxes up to our ears behind the desk and we don't have any space for storage," Long said Thursday of her current downtown location. 

But she's enjoyed being downtown, at first planning to move to a Princess Street location before that building was sold. At Mayfaire, the store will have room to add new offerings, including maternity dresses (Long recently had a baby and had trouble finding dresses that fit her more boho style), home accents and a boho bride section, with outfit options suitable for engagement photo shoots and rehearsal dinners.

Long said she hopes to add a section one day with bridal and bridesmaid dresses, and wants to work on custom pre-orders for bridesmaids in weddings that need a more bohemian look.

Long, who is originally from Wilmington, started her business with a website while living in Encinitas, California, a beach town in San Diego County where she was inspired by the environment.

She said she hopes to be able to begin welcoming customers to the Mayfaire store by the second week in April, if not sooner.
