New Express Car Wash Could Be On Way To Monkey Junction

Two families that opened a car wash on Market Street in Wilmington two years ago are considering a third location for their business.

On Wednesday, the New Hanover County Technical Review Committee is scheduled to discuss a potential Splash-N-Dash Express Car Wash on part of 2 acres at 5318 Carolina Beach Road in Monkey Junction.

The Umstead and Payne families, who started Splash-N-Dash, are in the preliminary stages of the proposal, said Mike Payne, one of the owners of the business.

The group opened the Splash-N-Dash exterior tunnel car wash with free vacuums at 5044 Market St. in June 2014 and another location in Jacksonville in December, Payne said.

The possible Monkey Junction location is a heavily traveled area and surrounded by a lot of residential growth, he said.

Draft site plans have been submitted to the county for the potential 5,400-square-foot Splash-N-Dash Express car wash on the Carolina Beach Road property.

But Payne said he and the other owners are currently just exploring the possibility, discussing the property and project with county officials as one of their preliminary steps.

"There's a lot of due diligence that has to be done," Payne said.

The draft site plans were completed by OnSite Civil Group of Milton, Georgia.

The county TRC will meet at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Room 601 at the New Hanover County Government Center, 230 Government Center Drive.

Also on the agenda for Wednesday's meeting is a plan for a 55-lot performance residential subdivision at the east end of Leigh High Road called Round Tree Ridge in site plans. The engineer on the Round Tree Ridge plans is Hanover Design Services, and the owner/developer is listed as TRS Holdings LLC.
