The GE Retirees Association will hold their first meeting of the year Sept. 16 at the New Hanover County Senior Center. Out of the 800 GE retirees that live in Southeastern North Carolina, about 100 attend the meetings, which are held once a month from September through May.
One of the main goals of the GE Retirees Association is to provide volunteers for area non-profit organizations. The association has sent volunteers in the past to the air show and the NCAA women’s golf tournament, where they worked the scoreboard. They will also volunteer at the Arthritis Walk in October.
The September meeting will be held at noon, and lunch is $7. This month’s speaker is Fred Pickler, author and photographer of Life & Times of the Fort Fisher Hermit
