Marpac LLC, a Wilmington-based company that makes and sells sleep products, is in the process of rebranding the company to meet more consumers' sleeping needs.
Co-CEOs Gordon Wallace and Jimmy Sloan purchased Marpac in 2010 with the intent to take the company to the next level in expanding its line of products. Prior to their leadership, the company’s sound machines were being sold in catalogs. Now Marpac has partnered with online and brick-and-mortar retailers.
“We’ve been making sound machines since 1962, and up until the last four years now, we’ve been nothing but a sound machine company, but we consider ourselves a sleep company,” said CEO Gordon Wallace. “We want to do other things in the sleep environment other than just sound. We are constantly figuring out what the best sleep products are that we can manufacture, market and sell.”
Today, Marpac sells an array of other sleep products including sheets, pillows, weighted blankets, lighting and diffusers both nationwide and internationally. Products can be found in retailers such as Walmart, Target and Best Buy, but most of the company’s revenue is from Bed Bath & Beyond.
Marpac has also had success online and its looking to expand its footprint. The Marpac Dohm Classic is the No. 1-selling white noise machine on Amazon.
Marpac is still defining their products and brand. The company acquired direct-to-consumer mattress brand Yogabed in January of 2018 and in hopes to achieve exponential growth plans.
Marpac is in the process of rebranding the company to a new name, YogaSleep. Over the next three to six months, Marpac plans to transition its products and packaging to the YogaSleep name.
“We looked to our consumers and sent out a lot of surveys,” CFO Graham Brice said of the rebranding. “Our company will remain Marpac, but our brand name to our consumer is going to be YogaSleep. Everything that we do from here on out will be YogaSleep in order to resonate more with the consumer market.”
The company plans to continue to develop sleep products and for the sleep environment. For the fiscal year 2020, the company is upgrading existing products and plans to develop close to 20 new products. With the expansion in the company, Marpac hopes to also bring more jobs into the community.
