Parts of Military Cutoff Road were closed to traffic near Parker Farm Drive on Friday morning after a crane knocked down at least one utility pole there, officials said.

Crews were diverting traffic, according to a tweet from the Wilmington Police Department, which had officers at the scene.

As of 10:30 a.m., parts of Military Cutoff were expected to be closed for 12 hours to replace three utility poles, said Jennifer Dandron, a spokeswoman with the Wilmington Police Department.

Entrances to Military Cutoff were blocked from Market Street, Swan Mill Road and Parker Farm Drive, Dandron said.

The incident, which happened at 9:20 a.m., cut off power to some businesses in the area, Dandron said. A video of the mishap on WECT's website shows the collision between the power lines and the utility pole.

Mayfaire Community Center had a power outage, said Mayfaire specialty leasing agent and marketing director Paige Coniglio. At least one business at the center, anchored by Dick's Sporting Goods and Marshall's, reported that the power was back on by 10:45 a.m.

Wilmington police were urging people to avoid the area. Some cars were involved but there were no reported injuries, Dandron said.
