Airlines Plan To Resume Additional Flights To NYC, Atlanta From ILM

By Cece Nunn, posted Jan 21, 2015
Wilmington International Airport received some good news from airlines recently, an airport official said Wednesday.

While companies have scaled back flights at airports nationwide, American Airlines has said that in February it will resume an additional flight to New York City’s LaGuardia Airport from Wilmington while Delta plans to add another flight from ILM to Atlanta in March, said Jim Morton, finance director for Wilmington International Airport.

Currently, American Airlines has one flight from ILM to LaGuardia, and Delta has five daily from ILM to Atlanta, Morton said.

“Obviously, there is a demand” for flights to those cities, with New York ranking at No. 1 among the most popular destinations for the local airport and Atlanta coming in at No. 4, Morton said.

At the same time, the airport’s plans have progressed for a 10,000-square-foot flex space building in its business park that is expected to consist of six bays for potential tenants, Morton said. Earlier this month, the New Hanover County Airport Authority approved a $76,325 proposal from Rees Architecture for design services for the building.
