Local Company Acquired; To Add 200 New Jobs

By Jamaal O'Neal, posted Apr 3, 2012

A Wilmington-based insurance firm plans to add 200 jobs in the next two years after being purchased by a Charlotte area company.

HomeInsurance.com, which operates a call center at 4829 Carolina Beach Road, was acquired Tuesday by Fort Mill, S.C.-based Red Ventures for an undisclosed amount, according to Kylie Craig, Red Ventures director of corporate communications.

Red Ventures — which employees 1,300 people at offices in Wilmington, Miramar, Fla. and San Antonio — is a technology company that works with clients to generate leads and sell products.

Craig said the acquisition involving its Wilmington office would not affect the existing 130 employees.

“Those employees would fall under Red Ventures,” Craig said.

Tim Kullick, executive vice president of Red Ventures, said HomeInsurance.com founders Carlos Lagomarsino and Jana Bell would each remain with the company to help grow and manage existing client relationships, and monitor day-to-day operations at the Wilmington office.

Kullick said Red Ventures was attracted to the Port City insurance giant because of the company’s growth potential.

“We’re expanding into several new industries,” Kullick said of Red Ventures’ growth. “We see insurance as a category that has a lot of growth potential.”

Kullick said while the firm’s primary focus will continue to be residential and auto insurance, Red Ventures hopes to introduce insurance polices for small businesses and commercial interests.

He added that his firm is actively filling openings for sales agents for its Wilmington location, and plans to work with UNCW and Cape Fear Community College to help find additional qualified applicants.

“We’re very excited about being a part of the Wilmington community,” Kullick said.
