A new biotech food technology company will soon occupy existing industrial space in Leland.

CMS Food Solutions, Inc. Tuesday purchased a 48,000-square foot warehouse at 2080 Enterprise Drive in Leland for $1.75 million.

Company officials recently announced plans to hire 52 new workers for its new plant at an average wage of $32,000 a year. The manufacturer also has plans to invest more than $4.4 million at the site, according to a news release.

Hill Rogers with Cameron Management, Inc. represented the seller of the building, while Bill Maus of Maus, Warwick, Matthews & Company represented CMS Food Solutions, Inc. during the purchase agreement.

CMS Food Solutions, Inc. is a privately held corporation that does research and development, marketing and manufacturing of biotechnologies targeting pathogens and spoilage bacteria to preserve harvested fruits, vegetables and other foods.

The firm currently has a manufacturing facility in Conroe, Texas, near Houston.

The company expects the Leland plant to be operational by the second quarter of 2012.
