U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will host a virtual town hall meeting for North Carolina counties on Tuesday, July 14, to solicit public comment on its re-drafted coastal wetland maps.

The current boundaries slice through development on Figure Eight Island, a channel through Middle Sound, and across the Intracoastal Waterway. The re-drafted boundaries exclude the development and add nearby wetlands.

The North Carolina teleconference includes Currituck, Dare, Carteret, Onslow, Pender, and New Hanover counties from 1-3 pm. To receive dial-in instructions participants must register by visiting: http://www.fws.gov/habitatconservation/coastal_barrier.html
The drafted maps are part of the recently submitted Report to Congress: John H. Chafee Coastal Barrier Resources System Digital Mapping Pilot Project. The Service will accept feedback from the public on the report and the maps until Aug. 5. Additional teleconferences will be held for counties in Florida and South Carolina.
