ART

Visit the New Hanover Country Arboretum for a celebration of art and the beauty of fall gardens. Art in the Arboretum will feature jewelry, glasswork, metalwork, textiles and stepping stones created by local artists, as well as live music by local performers. There will also be children’s events provided by the Children’s Museum of Wilmington, and an art show and sale sponsored by the Ability Garden. The event is Saturday, Oct. 6, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 7, noon-4 p.m. Tickets are $5 or free for members. Info: www.gardeningnhc.org. 

BOOKS

As part of Celebrate Banned Books Week, Ray Bradbury will be highlighted during Ray Remembered, hosted by Old Books on Front Street in collaboration with City Stage and the Cameron Art Museum. The event will feature a performance of Fahrenheit 451, photos and reminisces of Bradbury’s life and work and a Q&A. The event starts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5, at the Cameron Art Museum. FAMILY FUN

Join the Cape Fear Museum for Museum Carts on Sunday, Oct. 7. Carts containing various items will be stationed through the museum for guests to use for conducting experiments, playing games or exploring artifacts. The 33rd annual Riverfest Celebration will be Friday, Oct. 5 through Sunday, Oct. 7 along Water Street in downtown Wilmington. The event features locally made arts and crafts, live music and dance performances, food, fireworks, children’s activities and more. Admission is free. RECREATION

Come watch the nation’s oldest and longest running state Foosball event at BreakTime Billiards Sports Bar & Grill. The 38th annual N.C. State Foosball Championships will be held Friday, Oct. 5, through Sunday, Oct. 7, as competitors compete for more than  $2,500 in cash and prizes. Info: www.foosball.com/schedule. 

FUNDRAISER

The 2nd annual Serve It Up for Autism volleyball tournament will be Saturday, Oct. 6. Four- and six-person co-ed teams will compete in three divisions at Capt’n Bill’s Backyard Grill beginning at 11 a.m. Admission is $100 per team, and proceeds will support autistic children living in New Hanover, Pender and Brunswick counties. The Run for the Ta-Tas event to support breast cancer research will include a 5K and a one-mile walk. A memory wall will be available for signing to honor loved ones, and team awards will be given out. Special race bibs will be available for survivors. Admission for the 5K is $30 and $20 for the walk. The event will be at 8 a.m. at TrySports Event Field at Mayfaire Town Center on Saturday, Oct. 6. Info: www.its-go-time.com/run-for-the-ta-tas. 

The Knights of Columbus at Saint Mark Catholic Church will host a dinner and a show on Saturday, Oct. 6. This event will benefit children with special needs. The evening will include performances by singer Michael Angel and comedian Tommy Moore, as well as a silent auction and prizes. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. at St. Mark Catholic Church. YachtVenture, held at MarineMax in Wrightsville Beach, allows participants to explore 10 of the nicest and most expensive yachts in the area. Wine and a sunset dinner will also be included. Admission is $100, and proceeds will benefit the Children’s Museum of Wilmington. The event will be Saturday, Oct. 6, 5:30-10 p.m. Info: 254-3534. 

Support local animal rescue groups and shelters at Paws-Ability’s 2nd annual POKER Run on Bicycle. Two hundred cyclists will visit seven sites around Ocean Isle Beach to collect a playing card at each and form their poker hands. Then riders will return to the Ocean Isle Inn for a party that includes a silent auction, entertainment and dinner. The cyclist with the best hand receives an award. The event will be Sunday, Oct. 7. THEATER

Legacy Farms will host an interactive Halloween Mystery Dinner on Friday, Oct. 5. The performance is full of danger, intrigue and a humorous bunch of creepy characters. Admission is $69. The show begins at 8 p.m. Info: 805-3276. 

SHOPPING

Trading Post No. I: Cape Fear is a trunk show featuring independent brands. Products include apparel, footwear, food, local brew and more. The event will take place at Saint Thomas Preservation Hall on Saturday, Oct. 6, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Info: www.berkleytrading.com. 

YOGA

Paradise in the Park, hosted by Amy Burnett of Paradise Yoga, is an outdoor yoga session for participants of all levels and ages. The event will also include the chance to experience aromatherapy and a chair massage. Create your own prayer flag and enjoy fresh juices and healthy snacks. Admission is $21 and includes a T-shirt, as well as helps to fund the Wrightsville Beach Foundation’s beautification projects. The event will be held at Wrightsville Beach’s town park 9 a.m.-noon.
