ART

Visit the New Hanover Country Arboretum for a celebration of art and the beauty of fall gardens. Art in the Arboretum will feature jewelry, glasswork, metalwork, textiles and stepping stones created by local artists, as well as live music by local performers. There will also be children’s events provided by the Children’s Museum of Wilmington, and an art show and sale sponsored by the Ability Garden. As part of Celebrate Banned Books Week, Ray Bradbury will be highlighted during Ray Remembered, hosted by Old Books on Front Street in collaboration with City Stage and the Cameron Art Museum. The event will feature a performance of Fahrenheit 451, photos and reminisces of Bradbury’s life and work and a Q&A. The event starts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5, at the Cameron Art Museum. FAMILY FUN

Join the Cape Fear Museum for Museum Carts on Sunday, Oct. 7. Carts containing various items will be stationed through the museum for guests to use for conducting experiments, playing games or exploring artifacts. The 33rd annual Riverfest Celebration will be Friday, Oct. 5 through Sunday, Oct. 7 along Water Street in downtown Wilmington. Come watch the nation’s oldest and longest running state Foosball event at BreakTime Billiards Sports Bar & Grill. The 38th annual N.C. FUNDRAISER

The 2nd annual Serve It Up for Autism volleyball tournament will be Saturday, Oct. 6. Four- and six-person co-ed teams will compete in three divisions at Capt’n Bill’s Backyard Grill beginning at 11 a.m. Admission is $100 per team, and proceeds will support autistic children living in New Hanover, Pender and Brunswick counties. The Run for the Ta-Tas event to support breast cancer research will include a 5K and a one-mile walk. A memory wall will be available for signing to honor loved ones, and team awards will be given out. Special race bibs will be available for survivors. The Knights of Columbus at Saint Mark Catholic Church will host a dinner and a show on Saturday, Oct. 6. This event will benefit children with special needs. Support local animal rescue groups and shelters at Paws-Ability’s 2nd annual POKER Run on Bicycle. Two hundred cyclists will visit seven sites around Ocean Isle Beach to collect a playing card at each and form their poker hands. Then riders will return to the Ocean Isle Inn for a party that includes a silent auction, entertainment and dinner. The cyclist with the best hand receives an award. The event will be Sunday, Oct. 7. Paradise in the Park, hosted by Amy Burnett of Paradise Yoga, is an outdoor yoga session for participants of all levels and ages.
