A Review of 2022 in New Home Construction

Sponsored Content provided by Crystal Fidler - General Manager, America's Home Place

Reflecting over the housing market in New Home Construction last year, it has been one to remember. It was a difficult year in terms of the availability of materials, delayed shipping times, product lines being discontinued and just an overall of unknowns from week to week.

However, we fought to overcome all the issues thrown our way, to continue to strive to give our customers the home they wanted. Many customers don't realize what has gone on "behind the scenes" of the Home Construction industry during the last couple years and all the obstacles that not only we, but our supplies, have had to manage. It didn't stop at the extreme rise in cost of materials or delay in shipping times but also employee shortages across the board due to Covid and extended building time, due to the shipping times. As 2022 came to a close we are finally seeing less of these issues.

And what about those interest rates? Although interest rates are now fluctuating in the 6-7 % range, many forget that the interest rates now, were the normal low rates from the 1970s through the 1990s - except for a brief period in the 1990s where it jumped to 10%. It wasn't until the 2010s that they dropped to 5% and then went down lower as we went into the 2020s. What we want our customers to understand as they are deciding whether to build now or later, is that no matter how you look at it - investing in a home is always the best choice. Paying rent month to month, year to year is giving your money away to something you will never own. Building a home is always an investment. You can refinance your home at a lower rate in the future but you are never going to get the money back that you pay in rent.

Each month we have an event for any who are interested in learning about the building process, the construction lending process or even new construction open houses. Give us a call and ask to be put on our call or text list to receive these notifications so you can become acquainted with our company and staff. Simply stop by during our business hours to check out our showroom. We look forward to the coming year with the hope to build homes with our neighbors and friends in the surrounding area.
