“I have to admit I’m a technology geek. I spend most of my work time online, using a laptop or mobile device. At home, we have smart TVs connected either to an Xbox One S, a Nintendo Wii or an Amazon Fire TV Stick.”
“Every day I consume tons of news from numerous sources” including
The Wall Street Journal,
The Washington Post,
The Guardian,
The Atlantic,
CNBC and
The Daily Beast.
Must-read sites are
lawfareblog.com and
emptywheel.net that cover civil liberties and national security. “I also like Sarah Cooper (
sarahcpr.com). She left the tech industry to do standup comedy and runs a hilarious website.”
Favorite podcast is
Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History. “He does these deep dives on history on subjects ranging from Genghis Khan to World War I.”
Uses Hulu, Netflix or Amazon Prime to stream shows. "I use Hulu Plus for live TV. The Handmaid’s Tale is one of my favorites there. The Man in the High Castle, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Bosch are my favorites on Amazon. On Netflix, Into the Badlands, Luke Cage and Ozark are my favorites.”
For books, Weems listens to audiobooks since he drives a lot. “For fiction, I’m really into the Nordic crime genre. Jo Nesbo and Jussi Adler-Olsen are two of my favorite authors. Most of my reading is nonfiction and focuses on history, business and geopolitics.” Currently reading The Half Has Never Been Told: Slavery and the Making of American Capitalism by Edward E. Baptist.
Weems is always experimenting with new apps. “I use LastPass to store passwords across all my devices. Twitter is my go-to app for breaking news since I can follow specific reporters there. Pocket is a free app I use to save and tag articles to read later. Since I subscribe to Microsoft’s Office 365, I find their OneDrive cloud app is useful for uploading or accessing documents right from my phone.”
