A TripAdvisor list of the top 25 aquariums in the country included the N.C. Aquarium at Fort Fisher in the No. 16 spot, according to a recent news release.

North Carolina’s two other state-run aquariums also made the list, which stemmed from comments and ratings of hundreds of visitors. Pine Knoll Shores came in at No. 12, and Roanoke Island took the No. 19 slot.

“TripAdvisor says it uses an algorithm that takes into account the ‘quantity and quality’ of such reviews,” stated a release from the Fort Fisher attraction. “Visitors praised the clever ways learning is integrated with family fun, the helpful and friendly staff and volunteers, experiences such as seeing sea turtles and touching stingrays, and the variety of exhibits on offer each year.”
