A Tennessee-based urgent care company has acquired Wilmington's Medac Urgent Care, including its five urgent care centers and occupational health center.

Medac has been serving patients in Wilmington since 1984, said J. Dale Key, CEO of Medac, in a news release.

“As we were evaluating the next steps for Medac, we were pleased to find the team at Urgent Care Group eager to continue Medac’s role as the trusted leader in urgent care and occupational health services in southeastern North Carolina,” Key said in the release.

David Maloney, founder of Urgent Care Group, which is headquartered in Nashville, said in the release that the care the Medac team provides in Wilmington  "encompasses all the guiding principles of Urgent Care Group."

Medac will retain its name.

"Medac Urgent Care has been providing excellent care for decades and is a trusted brand in the Wilmington community. As Medac transitions to Urgent Care Group leadership, the Medac brand name will not change," said Maria Khan, director of marketing for Urgent Care Group.

Medac Urgent Care is the second member of the Urgent Care Group Network, following the addition of MEDcare Urgent Care in South Carolina earlier this summer, according to the release.

With the Medac acquisition, Urgent Care Group now owns and operates 13 urgent care centers in North Carolina and South Carolina.
