Wilmington-shot TV Pilot To Get State Incentive Funds

Update: This version of the story corrects the total amount of grant funds awarded Friday from $4 million to $5 million.

A TNT television pilot currently in production at EUE/Screen Gems Studios in Wilmington will receive up to $1.25 million in grant funds from the state of North Carolina, the N.C. Department of Commerce announced Friday.

Good Behavior, a drama starring Michelle Dockery, who plays Lady Mary Crawley on the popular PBS/BBC series Downton Abbey, has established offices at the Wilmington studios and will shoot for about two weeks in October, studio executive vice president Bill Vassar said earlier this month.

Friday’s news release said that Good Behavior may film some portions of its pilot in the Asheville area but most footage will be shot in Wilmington.

In addition to Good Behavior, two other projects will share a total of $5 million in film and television grant funds that were made available when plans for two western North Carolina movies were dropped. Those projects receiving incentives, according to the release, are real estate reality show Love It or List It’s second season in the greater Triangle area, which will receive up to $950,000 in grant money, and an untitled independent feature film to be directed by North Carolina native and UNC School of the Arts alumnus Jody Hill. The film, which is eligible for up to $2.8 million, will shoot in the state’s western region.

The three projects were selected from a pool of 17 applications, the release stated.

These projects, together with Under the Dome, which recently wrapped up production on its third season in Wilmington, are expected to have direct in-state spending of more than $60 million, according to the release.
