Canapé restaurant is looking for input on its fall dessert menu.

The eatery asking its followers on Facebook to help create a new ice cream flavor.  The favorite will be added to Canapé’s menu.

“We thought it would be fun to get our diners’ opinions to keep the flavors evolving,” said chef Matthew Gould.

Gould’s family has a history in the ice cream business. His father’s family is from Middleborough, Massachusetts, and is known in that area for his fleet of ice-cream trucks, according to Gould. His grandfather started the business 40-some years ago, and it continues today with his uncles heading up the operation.

“I guess you could say ice cream has always been something of a passion for me,” said Gould.

“Since Canapé opened, we've served a multitude of flavors. Avocado-lime-coconut was a hit over the summer and we’ve done muscadine and sugared pecans; cactus-fruit sorbet with lemon, lime and vodka; frozen peanut butter with grape jelly granita; peaches and cream with white chocolate; chocolate cake ice cream; honey ice cream; and the list goes on and on.”

When Canapé first started as a pop-up a few years back, the restaurant did something called "The Icebox.” It was basically an ice-cream club where a monthly membership got you a pint or two a week. Gould said he hopes to start that up again in the spring.

Canapé will be accepting flavor ideas from now until Nov. 21. The winner, who will be announced between Nov. 22 and Nov. 24, will receive a free dessert from the restaurant featuring the winning ice cream flavor.

Canapé is located at 1001 N. Fourth St.
