GE Hitachi Employee Appointed To State Radiation Commission

By Christina Haley O'Neal, posted Feb 19, 2019
Diana Hart has been appointed by Gov. Roy Cooper to the N.C. Radiation Protection Commission, according to a news release.

Hart is the senior vice president of environmental health, safety and security for Wilmington-based GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy, officials said in the release. She was one of 28 new members across the state appointed earlier this year to 23 of the state's boards and commissions.

“I’m thankful for the expertise each appointee brings to serving North Carolina, and for their help as we work to move North Carolina forward,” Cooper said in the release.

Hart was appointed as a member experienced in the atomic energy field, according to the release.

In her role at GE Hitachi, she and her team focus on driving nuclear safety culture, risk reduction, EHS (environmental health and safety) compliance and other key EHS initiatives across the business, said Jon Allen, GE Hitachi spokesman, in an email.

She has 16 years of experience in the nuclear industry in EHS, quality and operations, he said.

She was previously general manager of hydro facilities for Exelon Corp., where she spent nine years in various roles. Before joining Exelon in 2003, she spent four years at Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant in Maryland as a physicist and corrective action program leader, he said.

Hart earned a bachelor's degree in engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. She has a master's degree in radiological health physics from San Diego State University and a master's in environmental engineering and science from Johns Hopkins University.
