Wilmington Business Development has added Cliff Pyron to its team, according to a news release.

Pyron joins WBD as senior manager, business development and started his new position with the local economic development organization in January, officials said.

He previously served as account manager & economic development at N.C. Ports, where he spent more than four years. There, he worked with economic development professionals around the region and state, according to the release.

He first joined the ports in September 2014 as a communications manager. Before that, he worked for more than five years in local television news at WNCT, WWAY and WCSC.

Pyron earned a bachelor's degree in communications from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 2009.

“Cliff has the reputation and ideal skills-set to contribute immediate and measurable value to the WBD mission,” WBD CEO Scott Satterfield said in the release. “He brings expertise, energy and new ideas to our organization at a time of exciting opportunities for WBD and the regional economy.”

At WBD, Pyron’s duties will include recruiting new businesses and providing support to existing companies in the organization’s service area, officials said.

Pyron has served on the board of directors of North Carolina's Southeast, an 18-county economic development organization headquartered in Elizabethtown.

“Wilmington Business Development is widely known as one of the most effective economic development groups in the entire state,” Pyron said in the release. “After years of working together as partners, I’m honored to join the WBD team and help build on its admirable legacy of results.”
