Novant Health has welcomed several new providers to its team.

Karis Van Althuis, a physician assistant, is now at Novant Health Oceanside Family Medicine & Convenient Care in Shallotte, according to a news release. She joined the clinic in August.

Van Althuis earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from Liberty University in Virginia, and a master’s degree from East Carolina University’s College of Allied Health Sciences.

Novant Health Gastroenterology Brunswick has also welcomed Scott Itzkowitz, a physician, and Dorothy Truax, a physician assistant, to the Supply practice, according to a news release.

Itzkowitz, who is certified in gastroenterology, has been working full time at the practice since August.

Itzkowitz recently retired as a captain in the Medical Corps of the Navy, officials said. And before joining the hospital, he served as department head of gastroenterology at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune and chief of gastroenterology at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland.

Itzkowitz earned a medical degree at West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Naval Medical Center San Diego, and his fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of California's medical center in Los Angeles.

Truax, a board-certified physician assistant, worked at Southeast Anesthesiology Consultants in Charlotte before joining Novant Health.

She completed the physician associate program at Yale University School of Medicine.
