United Way of the Cape Fear Area announced the election of new board members and officers in a recent release.

Two board members were reelected for a three-year term: Tom Barth, UNCW, and Joanna Henderson, Live Oak Bank. Brad Erbes, GE, was reelected to a one-year term.

Seven new board members were elected to serve from 2014 to 2017. They are: James Dixon, PPD; Charlie Hardy, UNCW; Elizabeth Leath, Corning; Paul McCombie, NewBridge Bank; Valita Quattlebaum, New Hanover County Schools; and Julie Wilsey, Wilmington International Airport. Judy Budd, Greater Wilmington Business Journal/WILMA, will serve a one-year term.

New board officers for the 2014-15 year are: Mark Tyler, South State Bank–chairman; Barth–vice chairman; and Billy Smith, NewBridge Bank–treasurer.

Ed Murray, PPD, will chair the 2014-15 campaign, the release stated, adding that Bonnie Nelson, a community volunteer, is the organization’s nominating committee chairwoman, while Henderson is the new community impact chairwoman.

United Way presented its 2014 Live United Award to Kim Nelson, PPD, for her “dedication and commitment to the Cape Fear community,” according to the release.

“Kim has actively volunteered and participated in a number of committees, including the Women’s Leadership Council, WLC, where she was a founding member; the Community Investments teams at United Way; and has worked with the WLC and Phoenix Employment Ministries with attendees of the Phoenix Rise-Up Program,” United Way president Chris Nelson said in the release.
