Cape Fear Museaum Associates Inc. has named new board members and officers, according to a news release.

Officers for the coming year are Ashley Garner, president; Dan Goodwin, vice president; Chrystal Fray, secretary and Mike Hudson, treasurer.

“We are delighted to welcome these dedicated community leaders to Cape Fear Museum’s Associates Board,” Sheryl Kingery Mays, director of the Cape Fear Museum, said in the release. “Each board member adds a rich diversity of backgrounds, talents and experience to the board and plays a crucial role in the oversight of our institution and efforts to build an exciting future for the museum.”

New board members this year are Emily Bogan, Terry Espy, Katie Gloe, Dan Owen, Karl Ricanek and Ronna Zimmer. Each have been elected to serve three-year terms on the associates board.

Bogan is a graduate of N.C. State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and an MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. She has more than a decade of experience in the financial services and technology industries and is currently director of product management at nCino, a Wilmington-based technology company.

Espy is president of MoMentum Companies, a commercial real estate brokerage firm. She has over 25 years of experience directing full-cycle integration in real estate acquisition and is known in the industry as successfully dealing in markets with significant barriers to entry, the release stated. She also serves as president on the board of directors of the Downtown Business Alliance of Wilmington.

Gloe is a graduate of Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering and is a process manufacturing engineer for Corning, making optical fiber. She has previously served as president on the board of directors for Corning Professional Women’s Forum and was a previous member of WILMA’s Women to Watch Leadership Institute.

Owen is a graduate of the University of North Carolina Wilmington with a degree in history. He worked in the recycling, construction, environmental health and Spanish interpreting industries earlier in his career.

In 2008, Owen aligned his financial services practice with Northwestern Mutual and is a wealth management adviser providing insurance financial services for life, health and long-term care. He previously served on the Cape Fear Museum Advisory Board.

Ricanek is a graduate of N.C. A&T State University with a doctorate in electrical engineering and a professor of computer science at UNCW. He is founder and director of UNCW’s Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies in Identity Science. Ricanek is also co-founder and chief data scientist at Lapetus Solutions Inc.

Zimmer is a community leader with extensive board service in the area, including Thalian Hall Center for Performing Arts, New Hanover County Public Library Foundation, New Hanover County Library Advisory Board, Wilmington Symphony Orchestra and UNCW Board of Visitors.

At its annual meeting in June, Cape Fear Museum Associates Inc. also honored retiring board members Samantha Dooies, Lynore Young and Virginia Ross, who retired from the board after six years of active service.
