On Saturday, the temporary signs will come down and Wachovia will officially become Wells Fargo Bank.
So, what does that mean for customers?
Randy Tomsic, the bank’s Wilmington market president, predicted a smooth transition. While the colors and the branding will change, he explained, continuity is the name of the game.
“The people in our stores will stay the same. All our stores will be open on Saturday during the conversion.”
His answers to customers’ frequently asked questions:
Will I need to order new checks?
No, but if you would like Wells Fargo checks, you may order them.
Will my Wachovia account numbers change?
No account numbers will change.
Can I still use my Wachovia ATM and debit cards?
Yes. When they expire, they will be replaced by Wells Fargo ATM and debit cards. If you would like to order a Wells Fargo card before your Wachovia card expires, you may do so.
What about online banking?
Online banking services will migrate over the weekend. On Monday morning, or anytime afterward, simply log on to the Wachovia site and you will be transferred to the Wells Fargo site, where you will create a user name and password. All your account information will then transfer automatically.
What changes will happen with online bill pay?
There is an online tutorial and video to explain Wells Fargo bill pay. The primary difference is that Wells Fargo will deduct the amount to be paid from a customer’s account one to five days before the payment is scheduled to be made. Wachovia bill pay has deducted the amount on the actual payment date.
