Tropical Smoothie Café has refreshed the summer menu with two new items: luau sliders and mojito smoothies.

There are three kinds of luau sliders: Hawaiian pork BBQ with sweet BBQ sauce and house-made kale and apple slaw with Dijon honey mustard; Caribbean jerk chicken with grilled chicken, jerk sauce and house-made pineapple and mango salsa; and the sweet sriracha chicken with grilled chicken, sriracha aioli and a house-made sweet chili slaw with cabbage, carrots and basil. All are served on a Hawaiian-style bun.

Summer smoothies include a cucumber mojito smoothie with cucumber, lime, mint and avocado, and a watermelon mojito smoothie which is a blend of fresh watermelon, lime, mint and strawberries. What once was a limited time offer -- the avocolada, a mix of avocado, pineapple, spinach, kale, coconut and lime -- is now on the menu for good.

Tropical Smoothie Cafés across the country will celebrate the 9th annual National Flip Flop Day on June 19. This year each café has set a goal of raising $2,300 to benefit national charity partner Camp Sunshine. What started as simply a day to thank customers for their loyalty has turned into a mission to raise money the camp for children with life-threatening illnesses and their siblings.

“It’s just one of many ways we can help give back,” said local owner Brandon Korman.

Anyone who comes to Tropical Smoothie wearing flip flops on June 19 between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. will receive a free 24-ounce Jetty Punch Smoothie. Korman says the Wilmington location will also have several food promotions going on as well.

Customers can make donations to Camp Sunshine through June 30.

Tropical Smoothie Café is located at 2804 S. College Road and is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
