Next Glass Acquires Brewery Production Software Platform

By Johanna Cano, posted Dec 7, 2021
Next Glass will amp up its brewery software offerings with its recent acquisition of California-based FermentAble, a software platform for managing brewery production, according to a press release Tuesday.

“FermentAble is designed to replace whiteboards and spreadsheets, providing simple-to-use software to manage inventory, scheduling, and all other aspects of the production side of running a brewery,” the release stated.

Next Glass is the parent company of Untappd, a mobile application that connects beer fans and those in the beverage industry. Company officials did not disclose the financial details of the transaction.

The FermentAble platform will be integrated into Next Glass’ other technology platforms, the release stated. The company was founded in 2015 by Darin Haener and Frank West who wanted to create software solutions for smaller to midsize breweries.

"FermentAble was built for brewers by a brewer which is a unique strength of the product,” Trace Smith, CEO of Next Glass, said in the release. “Brewers have repeatedly asked us to deliver an affordable, reliable and intuitive brewery management platform that they love to use. We are throwing the full weight of Next Glass's resources and existing technology solutions behind delivering small brewers the platform they deserve.”

Some features of the platform are its simplicity and ability to manage inventory, scheduling and other aspects of brewery production. It also generates reports, tracks material inventory in real-time and generates brew log management.

According to the press release, Next Glass, currently has 4,000 brewers who are active customers. And according to Tisha Hulburd, chief marketing officer with Next Glass, the company has over 120 employees, 51 of whom are in Wilmington.

The company has offices in Charlotte, the Netherlands and Canada. It provides several products for those in the beverage alcohol industry including the Untappd mobile application, BeerAdvocate website and Untappd for Business where those in the industry can promote their business and more.

This is Next Glass’ second acquisition this year. In July the company announced it had purchased Canada-based Ollie, a multi-channel alcohol marketplace platform.
