CloudWyze Announces Plans For New Internet Service

By Jenny Callison, posted Dec 10, 2014
CloudWyze is preparing to cast a wider net in the Wilmington area.

In January, company officials have said, the communications and technology services company will begin offering an expanded wireless coverage area that will provide high-quality, rapid Internet services to businesses. The enhanced Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP) network will make “dedicated” level services available to companies at a more affordable cost than currently available through cable companies, CloudWyze CEO Shaun Olsen recently said.

Dedicated service guarantees that customers will have high-grade Internet service nearly 100 percent of the time, he said, explaining that, with companies putting more and more of their data online, it's important to have the fewest possible interruptions in service.

WISP was developed some years ago to bring Internet service to rural areas, Olsen said. It operates by beaming signals from strategically placed towers.

"It's like satellite television except it works in all weather," he said.

CloudWyze is installing primary and secondary towers that will bring the service to parts of New Hanover County where there are concentrations of business activity, according to CloudWyze COO Wells Struble.

Having WISP service, with its speedier download times, in the Wilmington area will help attract more startups and knowledge workers, Ann Revell-Pechar, who recently joined CloudWyze as its vice president of marketing, said, adding, "This changes the playing field and makes Wilmington on the same level of Internet [service] as the big cities."

Revell-Pechar (at left) is one of two new CloudWyze team members hired to support the company's expanded business activity, according to a recent news release. The other is Daniel Donovan, who will serve as senior consultant to the sales team.

"CloudWyze is prepared to make a big impact on business in the Cape Fear region," Olsen said in the release, adding that the expertise Revell-Pechar and Donovan bring "means we're more equipped to proclaim the benefits that CloudWyze brings to businesses in our region and beyond."

Revell-Pechar has run what is now called A.Revell Communications for more than 20 years, providing public relations services to primarily technology and life sciences companies, the release stated. She also recently owned Business RadioX studios in both Wilmington and Raleigh.

Donovan (at right) joined CloudWyze after spending nearly 40 years in sales executive positions with global brands such as Revlon, L'Oreal and Ricoh, for whom he was global accounts manager for more than 20 years, according to the release.
