One of the two Staples office supply store locations in New Hanover County is closing, but new local retailers are preparing to open their doors elsewhere in Wilmington.

The Staples at 5613 Carolina Beach Road, in The Villages at Myrtle Grove shopping center, is expected to close July 28, according to signs on the store's windows this week. Efforts to reach a Staples representative to find out more details about the closing were not immediately successful Tuesday.

But in October of last year, the owners of The Villages at Myrtle Grove submitted plans to New Hanover County for a nearly 150,000-square-foot retail building on vacant land next to Staples and encompassing at least some of the space at Staples. The project is still listed as being under review on New Hanover County's planning and land use website.

The Staples at 322 S. College Road will remain open, an employee at the store said Tuesday afternoon.

At Mayfaire Town Center, Blakeley’s Apparel & Gifts is expected to open Saturday and Coastal Golf Academy on June 28.

"The mother and daughter duo of Blakeley’s Apparel & Gifts created the boutique to share their passion for fashion. The store specializes in women's fashion and accessories, baby apparel, unique giftware, and more," according to a news release from Mayfaire. "The public is invited to their grand opening on June 24 at their new location on 6837 Main St."

Coastal Golf Academy is opening at 917 Town Center Drive. Former professional golfer Ethan Castle and PGA professional and coach Steve Dahlby are opening the indoor golf training facility to help golfers of all levels improve their game, the release stated.

In the Riverlights commercial area Marina Village, a luxury nail bar is celebrating its grand opening Saturday. Club Noire Nail Bar owner Drew Collier is a resident of Riverlights, a 1,400-acre master-planned community managed by Brookfield Properties along River Road in Wilmington.

Club Noire Nail Bar, 109 Pier Master Pointe, is a concierge nail salon that offers manicure, pedicure and waxing services, "with high standards for client service, advanced hygiene systems, and a commitment to sustainability. The salon is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., opening at 9 a.m. Fridays and closing at 6 p.m. Saturdays," the release stated.  Located at 109 Pier Master Pointe, Club Noire will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday, June 24. The salon offers club memberships for monthly appointments and savings. Appointments can be booked at clubnoirenailbar.com

Collier stated in the release, “I wanted to open Club Noire here as I know the community well and knew residents would be supportive.”
