Harris Teeter Matching Customer Donations For Hurricane Relief

By Jessica Maurer, posted Sep 19, 2018

In support of Hurricane Florence relief efforts, grocery store chain Harris Teeter announced a pledge of up to $125,000 to the American Red Cross, which supports affected communities by providing relief supplies, emergency response units and support for reconstruction.

Harris Teeter will match customer donations, up to $125,000, made at Harris Teeter stores through Sept. 30. Donations are being accepted at all Harris Teeter locations throughout seven states and the District of Columbia.

All of the donations made through the in-store campaign will benefit ARC, and the company has requested that the ARC direct the funds specifically toward food-relief efforts.

“The Red Cross is proud to count Harris Teeter as a partner to provide people with much needed support as we help communities impacted by disasters big and small, and countless other crises,” said Don Herring, chief development officer at the American Red Cross.

In addition to the in-store campaign, Harris Teeter is currently distributing truckloads of free ice and water and other essentials to the communities most impacted by the storm.

“We are rallying our community and vendor partners as well as our valued customers and associates to support those affected by Hurricane Florence,” said Danna Robinson, spokeswoman for Harris Teeter. “Feeding families is an integral piece of the disaster recovery puzzle, and we want to bring community members, especially those who may be displaced from their homes, back to the table.”
