BMW of Wilmington’s new reconstructed and redesigned facility tripled the dealership's size and resulted in additional sales team members, according to a news release.

The Baker Motor Co.-owned dealership is 34,000 square feet and has an increased inventory of new and used vehicles. BMW of Wilmington and Porsche Wilmington, both owned by Baker Motor Co. and located at 4920 New Centre Drive, have 74 employees, said public relations director for Momentum Marketing Liza Vilnits in an email.

The facility officially opened to the public recentlyIts redesign is described as having a sleek and modern showroom, including a waiting lounge and café, on-site carwash and BMW Genius, a product and customer service assistant that BMW introduced to its showrooms.

“Our vision was to build a BMW dealership in Wilmington that reflects our passion for the brand and features the most modern conveniences for our clients, and we couldn’t be happier with the end result,” Tommy Baker, owner and president of Baker Motor Co., said in the release. “Both our clients and employees are our top priority, and this facility was thoughtfully designed with both in mind.”

The dealership was purchased nearly three years ago by Baker Motor Co. from Schaeffer BMW, a Wilmington-based firm.

“When we purchased BMW of Wilmington in 2015, we immediately went to work planning this new facility,” Baker said in the release. “As part of our overall commitment to serve the region comprehensively, we will soon begin construction on the all-new Porsche Wilmington.”

Porsche Wilmington will also be redesigned and reconstructed, with expected completion by fall 2019, Vilnits said.

Headquartered in South Carolina, Baker Motor Co. operates four dealership campuses, including Baker Motor Company of Charleston Inc., Baker Buick GMC Cadillac, Mercedes-Benz of Mount Pleasant and BMW of Wilmington and Porsche Wilmington. The company represents 14 luxury car brands.
