Former Blockbuster Space Near Monkey Junction To Get New Tenant

By Cece Nunn, posted Aug 15, 2014
Pet owners in the Monkey Junction area will have another source of food and supplies for their furry family members when PetSmart opens next month in the space formerly occupied by a Blockbuster video store in Myrtle Grove Shopping Center.

PetSmart signed the lease for the more than 6,000-square-foot space at 5226 S. College Road in the spring, said Mike Brown, a broker with Cape Fear Commercial, the agency that represented the landlord in the transaction. The Navigator Group of Charlotte represented PetSmart.

“We’re excited to be involved with Myrtle Grove Shopping Center and look forward to filling up the remaining spaces,” Brown said. “We’re very happy to have PetSmart as an anchor tenant.”

PetSmart’s website indicates that the store will celebrate its grand opening Sept. 6. Another new PetSmart store will occupy 12,000 square feet in Mayfaire’s Community Center, with an opening expected in mid-2015, while the PetSmart on New Centre Drive is reportedly staying put.

Other current occupants of Myrtle Grove Shopping Center include two restaurants -- Cape Fear Seafood Company and Giorgio’s Italian Restaurant -- a Vintage Values resale store  and The Fairy Circle consignment shop.
