Downtown Wilmington has a new source for essential groceries and snacks.

Ayoub “Tony” Abdelhamid, owner of three Village Market locations, has opened the door to his newest store, located at 1 N. Front St. He purchased the 167-year-old building in July of 2010 and has spent 15 months renovating the store.

The space, home to Tom’s Drugs for many years, has been revamped with a new floor plan, large windows, and new finishes and fixtures. The shelves are stocked with everything from potato chips to wine. There are milk, soft drinks and beer in the refrigerator case. Customers  may also purchase a cup of New England Coffee.

Additional items, to include produce, eggs and a wider range of staples, will be available in the future, said staff member Angela Cannon.

Store hours are 8 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week.
