After 35 years in business, Elizabeth’s Pizza & Italian Restaurant has indefinitely closed.

According to social media, Elizabeth’s closed for the holidays from Dec. 19 through Jan. 4. The restaurant announced via Facebook on Jan. 4 that it would not reopen as planned due to a family emergency, which was followed by another announcement on Jan. 14 that the restaurant would remain closed, potentially for “many months (or years).”

“Due to complications and other limitations associated with a longstanding insurance claim for storm damages, we have determined that temporary repairs and partial operations are no longer practical, and therefore we decided to temporarily close our family restaurant,” the restaurant shared in the Jan. 14 Facebook post.

The closure comes after decades of operations from its location at 4304 ½ Market St. Owned by the Lookman family since it opened in 1987, the restaurant served an extensive menu of calzones, pasta, pizza, stromboli and other Italian-American specialties.

Elizabeth’s had exclusively offered takeout, delivery and catering since 2020. Like restaurants across the state, Elizabeth’s was forced to close its dining room in the early days of the pandemic, but the business did not reopen for in-person dining after restrictions were lifted.
