Thankful For Takeout: Local Options Abound For Thanksgiving

For those who look forward to the bounty of a traditional Thanksgiving table but dread the cooking (and dishes) it entails, eateries around Wilmington provide a cornucopia of choices to make preparation of the annual feast easier.

8207 NOMA offers a variety of breakfast and light lunch options for Thanksgiving Day: quiche, biscuits with sausage and pimento cheese or ham and raspberry preserves, and chicken salad. Fare for the main meal includes classic dishes like sliced turkey breast sold by the pound, gravy, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese and various casseroles as well as unique options like tomato pie, cheddar chive biscuits and roasted butternut squash soup. Orders can be placed in person or by phone by Nov. 16 with pickup on Nov. 22–23.

Cast Iron Kitchen’s Thanksgiving takeout package contains turkey breast or pulled pork shoulder, gravy, cranberry sauce and three sides from a list including sausage stuffing, sweet potato casserole, braised collards, macaroni and cheese, green bean casserole and mashed potatoes. Portion sizes range from dinner for two to 20 guests. Food is packed in oven- and microwave-safe disposable containers with reheating instructions. Also for sale are assorted baked goods for an easy Thanksgiving breakfast. Reservations for takeout packages can be placed by phone or on Cast Iron Kitchen’s website by Nov. 18 with pickup available Nov. 22–23.

Junction 421’s Turkey to Trot takeout package feeds four people with a roasted half turkey or sliced baked ham with three of the following sides: sweet potato casserole, cornbread dressing, autumn salad, mashed potatoes, broccoli casserole or pumpkin creme brulee. Vegan Thanksgiving takeout is available at Panacea Brewing Company in the form of entrees, sides and desserts, each of which serves up to eight people. Plant-based entrees include lentil and oat loaf with gravy or tofu quiche that can be served alongside smashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potato casserole, macaroni and cheese, braised super greens or local mushroom dressing. Pumpkin pie, chocolate pecan pie and pumpkin bread are available for dessert. Citrus cranberry relish or garlic basted brioche bread can be added to any order. Orders can be made on Panacea’s website through Nov. 20 with pickup available between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Nov. 23.

Pine Valley Market sells slow-roasted turkeys basted with butter and white wine as well as cooked turkey breast by the pound. Sides come in three sizes: small feeds two to four people, medium feeds six to eight people, and large feeds 10-15 people. Dressing, macaroni and cheese, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes are among the traditional fare offered alongside more unique dishes like sweet potato souffle, corn souffle, cider-glazed brussels sprouts and cheddar garlic biscuits sold by the dozen. Owner Christi Ferretti said an individually portioned plate of turkey with gravy, dressing, cranberry sauce and chef’s choice of four sides is a popular option. Orders can be placed at Pine Valley Market’s website by Nov. 18 and picked up Nov. 22–23.

Each package includes instructions for reheating food. Orders can be placed on SeaWitch’s website by Nov. 20 with pickup on Nov. 23.

Quiche, granola and baked goods are available for breakfast with cheeseballs, shrimp cocktail, charcuterie and dips as appetizers. Sides come in three sizes: small feeds three to four people, medium feeds six to eight people, and large feeds 12-16 people. Traditional options like mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, green bean casserole and stuffing are on the menu alongside marmalade-roasted brussels sprouts and fresh green beans with radicchio. Orders can be placed in person, by phone or on Spoonfed’s website by 2 p.m. on Nov. 19. Pickup times will be scheduled between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Nov. 23.

In addition to as many as 1,000 guests served family-style at the restaurant on Thanksgiving Day, Sweet n Savory also prepares a takeout package that feeds up to eight people with turkey, stuffing, whipped potatoes, gravy, green bean casserole, vegetable medley, cranberry sauce, yeast rolls and pie. Takeout packages must be ordered in advance by phone and picked up between 10 a.m. and noon on Thanksgiving.
