Bagel Connoisseur Opens New Brand In Ogden

Bagels are on the rise in Wilmington thanks to Phil Santomassi, a true “bagel meister.”

The bagel connoisseur is once again bringing his love for the doughy staple to the area. After opening, running and selling a total of eight other locations, including the popular Beach Bagels, Donut Inn and Mr. Bagel Meister, Santomassi is continuing his run with the recently opened Coastal Bagels.

The business opened in Ogden right after Labor Day. Located at 6756 Gordon Road, unit 190, the location features a drive-thru window and is open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

When looking for his next venture, Santomassi set his sights on a location off Gordon Road. “A lot of people said it was a risk,” he said. “But I kept asking myself where can you find a bagel on this side of town and the answer was nowhere.”

He felt the area was a prime location close to local neighborhoods and other businesses. Santomassi’s decision has proven successful so far with lines already forming out the door.

Coastal Bagels, about the same size as Santomassi’s previous business footprints, offers 15 New York-style bagel varieties with plans to expand.

Early favorites bagel flavors include cinnamon raisin, blueberry, pumpernickel, jalapeño, French toast – and the best seller, everything.

Egg sandwiches and breakfast bowls round out the menu. Customers can choose from eight sandwich selections with six bread options other than a bagel such as a kaiser roll, wrap or croissant. Sides consist of tater tots or chips.

Coastal Bagels also offers lunch options, including a BLT, Philly cheese steak, deli meats and more. Online ordering and a to-go menu are also available.
