Ready to unwind from a long, hard day? If so, Amy Burkhardt has something to help. The business owner and her family opened Unwined on the Square in Leland in early June.

The second Unwined location and first along the coast of North Carolina is versatile –– it has a yoga studio and a wine lounge and Burkhardt promises a good time for all.

“We first opened Unwined on White four years ago in Wake Forest and we thought now would be a good time to try a second location,” Burkhardt said.

She added that she and her husband went back and forth over locations and debated on setting up shop in Southport, Wilmington or Leland. In the end, Leland –– with all its growth, won out.

“Leland is a wonderful place. It’s just over the bridge and growing. We are so happy to be here,” she said, adding that the community has been very welcoming.

While what Unwined offers may seem drastically different to some people, Burkhardt said it’s not uncommon. “We do have two completely separate types of customers,” she said with a laugh.

Burkhardt said Unwined has a Yoga studio that’s open seven days a week as well as a wine lounge. Customers include those who like to mix it up a bit and Burkhardt said she is happy to see the community coming together.

She said that many times when yoga classes are finished, people flock over to the lounge for a glass of wine or some craft beer.

Plans for the Leland space include trivia nights and Burkhardt said the Leland Lady Runners meet at the location after their runs on Thursdays.
While starting and opening a business can be stressful, Burkhardt said she is thrilled to have a second location open.

“The process to open a business like this is lengthy and sometimes can get frustrating but you just forge ahead,” she said. Burkhardt said the joy comes when she and her family are able to see the community come together over a glass of wine or through experiencing a yoga class.

“In our first location, we have had first dates that have turned into marriage and new people to the community come in and make new friends so that’s the joy," she said. "We love to bring people in the community together.”

Unwined on the Square is located at 2163 Britton Road Suite 120 in Leland. It is open Monday through Thursday from 3 to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from noon to 10 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m.
